Minnesota Vikings: 5 things to be thankful for in 2015

The Minnesota Vikings are playing good football during the 2015 NFL season, but what five things should we be the most thankful for in the franchise?

It’s a pretty good time to be a Minnesota Vikings fan. The team is still in the race for the NFC North division crown and are playing hard to be a playoff team once again.

Also, it just happens to be Thanksgiving.  In honor of the holiday, I’ve decided to take a look at the franchise and see which things Vikings fans should be thankful for this season and make up a list of the five things that I’m most appreciative of.

Here is the list, in no particular order.

  • Head coach Mike Zimmer – Seriously, how great is this guy? He’s got the right attitude to lead this young team. In just his first head coaching job, Zimmer has helped turn around a franchise that felt like it was spinning its wheels. Plus, you have to love any coach who is that honest in their press conferences that he has no problem saying a player stunk on the field.
  • U.S. Bank Stadium – Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful for the University of Minnesota as well, for letting the Minnesota Vikings use TCF Bank Stadium. But the future home of the team is looking to be a beautiful, state of the art stadium filled with history, art, and every modern convenience that you can imagine. It is hard not to be excited about it.
  • Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf. Brace Hemmelgarn-US PRESSWIRE

The Wilf Family – The ownership of the team has just the right balance of being involved and letting the team work their own magic. Not only that, but the real estate family isn’t afraid to invest money into a project that they know will have a good return. We see that with their love for the Vikings and willingness to improve the amenities at U.S. Bank Stadium.

  • Linval Joseph – When he came to the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent before the 2014 season, it was no secret that the team was getting a big body to stuff the run and occasionally rush the passer. However, there was no way to know just how successful the big man would be this season, dominating the trenches and setting a physical tone for the defense.
  • Harrison Smith – Speaking of the defense, I would be disappointed if Smith wasn’t on this list. The Vikings need to lock this man up to a long-term deal as fast as possible, as he is one of the best safeties in the NFL. So physical. So tough. He exemplifies what football should be in Minnesota.
  • That’s my list. Do you disagree with any of my choices?  Have some different things that you are thankful for this year?  Discuss them in the comments below.
