The Minnesota Vikings have used the Gjallarhorn to signal the beginning of contests at home games since 2007, and that will continue at U.S. Bank Stadium.

One of the best traditions in Minnesota Vikings history has only been around since 2007. Hearing the sounding of the Gjallarhorn signaled that the team was ready to take the field for battle in a hard-fought contest.

Thankfully, that tradition will continue at the team’s new home in U.S. Bank Stadium, as a platform specifically for the large horn will be placed over the playing surface as a special location for the iconic piece of team history.

According to the Minnesota Vikings official Twitter account, the new home of Gjallarhorn will overlook the field. Here is the picture that was shared:

At TCF Bank Stadium last year, one of the horns blown by Minnesota Vikings legends and honored guests shattered due to the cold weather, but the team has a spare Gjallarhorn that will be used in U.S. Bank Stadium.

The history of the Gjallarhorn is an interesting one, with roots going all the way back to Norse mythology. Here is a description from the official Minnesota Vikings website of what the Gjallarhorn is for those who aren’t sure:

"“According to Norse mythology, the Gjallarhorn was sounded to announce the arrival of the gods. Since 2007, Vikings fans have witnessed the sounding to signal that the Vikings are coming and the start of a great battle on the gridiron is on the horizon.”"
