Adam Jones could garner free agent interest from the Vikings according to Pro Football Talk.

Is Pacman Jones ready to reunite with Mike Zimmer in Minnesota?

I don’t know how valid this rumor is but it’s officially out there. Pro Football Talk cites “league sources” as saying the Vikings could be interested in Adam Jones.

The Cowboys, Raiders, Dolphins and Browns are also mentioned in the report.

Is this simply a case of another former Mike Zimmer protege being automatically linked to the former Bengals defensive coordinator or is there validity to this rumor?

The Vikings currently have Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes penciled in as their starting corners with Captain Munnerlyn at the nickel. Terence Newman is a free agent but the Vikings reportedly have interest in bringing him back.

Backup corners Josh Robinson and Marcus Sherels are also free agents but only Sherels is likely to return.

The depth situation is such that the Vikings might be looking to sign a corner, but does Adam Jones seem like a good fit?

I could only see the Vikings pursing Jones if they’re still unsure about Waynes being able to take over a starting role. Waynes was brought along slowly last year behind starter Terence Newman but did play well in the playoff game against Seattle after Newman was hurt.

To me, this feels like a “he played for Zimmer so let’s link him to the Vikings” sort of deal. But perhaps the Vikings are looking for a veteran corner and believe Newman is a little too old at this point.

Next: Iloka would love to play for Zimmer

Jones comes with a lot of baggage of course, but Zimmer knows him well and we assume that Jones respects Zimmer.

Mike Zimmer once resurrected Adam Jones’ career. Perhaps Jones would like to make a run at a ring with his old coach.
