Matt Forte will no longer play for the Chicago Bears but reports indicate he is drawing interest from another NFC North team, the Green Bay Packers.

The good news: The Vikings will no longer have to face Matt Forte when they play the Bears.

The bad news: The Vikings may have to face Matt Forte when they play the Packers. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers have expressed interest in signing the 30-year-old free agent running back.

Forte may have seen his production decline in 2015, partly due to injury, but in the right situation he can still be a dangerous player. Could the Packers be that right situation?

The Packers aren’t usually very aggressive in free agency as we know but they have had some success picking up former Chicago Bears like Julius Peppers.

Adding Forte to the Packers’ already-formidable stable of offensive playmakers should be a slightly anxiety-inducing prospect for Viking fans.

The Packers clearly are not happy with how things went for them offensively in 2015 and are looking to improve their personnel. They already know they’re getting Jordy Nelson back for next year, and now it looks like they want to beef up their array of weapons even more by adding the multi-faceted Forte.

With Aaron Rodgers creeping into his mid-thirties, the Packers realize their championship window is beginning to narrow and standing pat may no longer be an option. That NFC North division race is going to be a dogfight again in 2016.
