Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater may be a work in progress, but he seems to be progressing at a nice rate for the NFC North champions.

It’s still early, but if what Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said during his interview on ESPN’s NFL Live is any indication it looks like QB Teddy Bridgewater is already starting to show signs of growth heading into his 3rd season.

One of the main observations I made last year was even though Teddy did a good job drawing opposing defenses offsides with his hard count, he wasted many of those free play opportunities by handling the ball off to Adrian Peterson.

Seeing as how the king of the hard count and taking free shots downfield, Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers, plays in the same division, many Vikings fans were frustrated by Teddy’s lack of attempts.  Those fans’ doubts may have been but to rest though after Zimmer’s comment Thursday as quoted in an article on Viking Update on Scout.com.

"“One of the things that happened out there today in practice, he had a good look – the defender jumped it and then he went over the top,” Zimmer said. “He’s done a nice job of throwing the deep ball so far in these couple weeks, so that’s been a big factor for us. The more we can open up the defense of the other team, it allows us to hit some more big plays.”"

So there you go Viking fans, even though it’s only the team’s first OTA, it looks like Teddy is progressing into taking more shots downfield.  Couple that with his new higher release point and hopefully this is another step in becoming the franchise QB the Vikings drafted him to be in order to repeat as NFC North Champions and make a deeper run in the playoffs. Teddy’s growth will continue to be one of the main story lines to keep an eye out for during the remaining OTAs and heading into training camp.
