Veteran Minnesota Vikings cornerback Terence Newman has been named the team’s nominee for the NFL’s third-annual Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.

Terence Newman is an anomaly in today’s NFL. The 38-year-old Minnesota Vikings cornerback is still playing at a very high level, consistently drawing the praise of his team, the media, and fans. But now Newman is being recognized for being a good sport as well.

During the Tuesday, November 15, 2016 announcement of nominees for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, it was revealed that Newman would represent Minnesota for a chance to win some great money for charity and have his work outside football recognized.

Here is the tweet from the team’s official Twitter account announcing the nomination of Newman for the award:

Now, that Newman and 31 other players have been nominated by their respective teams, the process of narrowing down the competition will begin.

The 32 nominees will be reduced to a field of 8 competitors by a panel of former players from the NFL Legends Community. Then, those 8 players will receive votes on December 16, 2016 from players in the NFL, which is the same time Pro Bowl voting is done. The winning individual will be announced during the NFL Honors ceremony on February 2, 2017 on FOX.

Here is a list of what is awarded to the winner of the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award according to the official Minnesota Vikings website:

"“He will receive a $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to a charity of his choice. He will also receive a trophy that represents the important role that sportsmanship plays in the game and how NFL players that demonstrate integrity and honor on the field serve as role models for players at all levels. “"
