The Minnesota Vikings announced on Monday that the team has signed safety Cedric Thompson back the practice squad once again.

Back in the 1980’s, the Chicago Bears were at the height of their success and released a song called ‘The Super Bowl Shuffle’. The Minnesota Vikings currently have a shuffle as well, but this one doesn’t have a fun song attached to it.

The Vikings have made a habit of shuffling around their practice squad on a regular basis. By rotating the guys on that unit, they can keep an extra player on the payroll to evaluate for possible future contribution on the main roster.

The transactions continued on Monday, December 5, 2016 with the Minnesota Vikings announcing the return of safety Cedric Thompson to the practice squad on their official Twitter account:

The Vikings had a gap on their practice squad following the release of offensive lineman Sean Hickey less than a week ago. While there was some speculation that the gap was part of an elaborate plan to bring a player back from injured reserve, that proved to not be the case.

Thompson has already been signed and released by the Vikings at least once this season. However, by keeping him rotating from free agency to the practice squad isn’t a bad thing for a young NFL player.

Not only is Thompson getting more looks from the Vikings, but he can possibly get extra signing bonuses and have a chance to settle down in one location for a while, as practice squad players typically have to be ready to move at the drop of hat.

As always, The Viking Age would like to welcome Cedric Thompson back to Minnesota. Hopefully, his stay with the Minnesota Vikings practice squad can be a bit longer this time and he can be a more regular fixture with the squad.
