The rewards program for Minnesota Vikings fans can pay off in a big way. Marvel and DC Comics artist Dan Jurgens found that out by winning a Pro Bowl trip!

People who use Vikings Rewards know just how great of a program it can be for fans. Just by watching videos, reading articles, or looking at photos on the official Minnesota Vikings website, fans of the Minnesota Vikings fan earn points toward merchandise or enter drawings for awesome prizes or experiences.

For the 2017 Pro Bowl, the Vikings offered a trip to the Pro Bowl for one of the lucky fans who participate in the program and spent points for a chance to win. According to the official Vikings website, the individual who won the experience was well deserving, but also pretty well known in the comic book universe.

The winner’s name was Dan Jurgens. He has been in the comic industry for over 30 years and contributed to major works such as DC’s FLASH GORDON, GREEN ARROW, and THE JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA and Marvel’s THE SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN, THE MIGHTY THOR, and CAPTAIN AMERICA.

However, he is likely best known for being the writer/artist for SUPERMAN, including the genre shaking issue ‘Death of Superman’ and helping to bring DC Comics back to life with ZERO HOUR.

Jurgens is a season ticket holder of the Minnesota Vikings who grew up in the state. In fact, some of his early artistic work centered around the boys in purple.

More from The Viking Age

"“As an 8-year-old growing up in Ortonville, Minnesota, Jurgens filled his sketchbook with drawings of Joe Kapp, Dave Osborn and other “the Vikings of old,” as the creative calls them.”"

For Jurgens, relating the superheroes from the comic book pages to the players on an NFL field isn’t too much of a stretch as well as going on the trip to Orlando, Florida with his wife Ann.

"“I’ve always seen a relationship between the visual aspect of an NFL player in uniform and a super hero in costume,” Jurgens said. “Fortunately my wife is a football fan as well, so she was totally into it,” Jurgens said. “It was fun to meet the winners from all the other teams, because they were all really into football. And not just their own teams – everybody who was there had this awareness of the NFL.”"
