Adrian Peterson’s dad wants the star running back to finish out his NFL career where he started, and that decision rests upon the Minnesota Vikings.

The future of star running back Adrian Peterson is up in the air. The Minnesota Vikings have to decide whether or not to make a $6 million commitment to keep the talented rusher with the team by March 11, 2017.

Many media sites are making guesses as to what the future holds for Peterson. Few are giving the running back the benefit of the doubt to stay with Minnesota, as most are already projecting him to other NFL teams.

Recently, Peterson’s father joined the discussion. In an article on the ESPN website, Nelson Peterson discussed wanting his son to finish his career where it started: in Minnesota:

"“Finishing your career in one place (has value),” Nelson Peterson said. “I look at how Arizona treated Larry (Fitzgerald), how they are taking care of guys who have been there.”"

Larry Fitzgerald has been a standard for the Cardinals, consistently contributing and never making negative headlines. To assume the two need to be ‘treated’ the same way is a bit of a mistake, but it is completely understandable for a man to want what is best for his son.

General manager Rick Spielman says negotiations haven’t started between the team and Peterson’s agent, but the running back’s legacy in Minnesota has already been cemented.

"“In my mind, regardless of whether Adrian is here or not here next year because of whatever happens, he will always be a Minnesota Viking.”"

The March 11th deadline will be what to watch for. The team will likely not want to have that large amount of cash hanging over their head, and there is no chance Adrian Peterson returns on his massive contract. Negotiations will need to start soon if Nelson’s son will be wearing Vikings purple for the 2017 season.
