The Hall of Famer and former Minnesota Vikings receiver recently spoke on some of the similarities between him and the team’s new pass catcher.

Back before Cris Carter joined the Minnesota Vikings, the wide receiver was struggling with a some issues both on and off the field as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Eventually the Eagles released the troubled pass catcher and Carter was given another chance for NFL success with the Vikings.

He definitely made the most of it.

The wide receiver ended up spending 12 seasons with Minnesota and evolved into one of the best to ever catch passes in the history of the league. His induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013 really showed just how far Carter had come since that unfortunate day in 1990 when Philadelphia showed him the door.

When the Vikings announced the signing of free-agent wide receiver Michael Floyd on Wednesday, Carter took to social media to offer up some advice for Minnesota’s new addition who is currently serving his sentence for a recent DUI conviction.

Carter also spoke to the Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson on Wednesday about Floyd joining the Vikings and what kind of help he could possibly offer to the team’s newest wide receiver.

"“I’ll try to help him with anything that I can in his assimilation back into being a very good football player and trying to help the Vikings win games.(The Vikings are) going to put the support around him, and me being a former Viking that struggled with things, the team really helped me. Being a fan of Michael Floyd, I’m pulling for him.”"

No one is expecting Floyd’s career to resemble anything similar to Carter’s when it eventually comes to an end, but it is easy to see why the Hall of Famer wants to see the Vikings’ new receiver get back on the road to success.

But hey, if Floyd actually does turn out to be a Hall of Fame inductee one day too, no in Minnesota is going to be mad about that.
