Michael Floyd may have experienced legal issues before coming to the Minnesota Vikings, but head coach Mike Zimmer feels the team is a great fit for him.

The Minnesota Vikings got serious about improving their offense during the offseason. Not only did they sign two of the top offensive tackles and a versatile running back in free agency but they added a talented wide receiver as well in Michael Floyd.

Floyd comes to the Vikings with a bit of baggage. He was arrested for a DUI in Arizona last December which may have kept some teams from giving him a solid look in free agency. However, Minnesota gave him a 1 year, $1.5 million contract.

Recently Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer spoke about the fit for Michael Floyd with the team and why Minnesota offers a great support system for him in an article on ESPN.com:

"“We understand [his legal history]. We always try to weigh every situation,” Zimmer said. “But you know, he’s from here. I think he has a good support system with [former Notre Dame teammates] Harrison Smith and Kyle Rudolph, partly. A lot of those things were factored into it.”"

Floyd’s probation got transferred from Arizona to Minnesota, allowing the wide receiver to begin working out with the team and getting to know his new teammates. With the help of Smith and Rudolph, that should be an easy transition. When you add in that he is a Saint Paul native from Cretin-Derham Hall High, the connection gets even stronger.

"“Michael’s a very, very intelligent person, so I don’t think he’ll have any problem catching on to the system or anything like that,” Zimmer said. “But to get out here and do it, and be around the other guys, and be around the quarterbacks, I think that will help him.”"

Everything seems to be pointing to Michael Floyd getting a great opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings during the 2017 NFL season. With the support of current and past teammates as well as being able to be in Minnesota for activities, the sky could be the limit for the recent Vikings acquisition.
