New Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Michael Floyd spoke to the local media on Wednesday about his excitement to be playing for his hometown team.

After getting his DWI punishment transferred from Arizona to Minnesota last week, wide receiver Michael Floyd is enjoying the fact that he gets to join his new Minnesota Vikings teammates on the field this week for OTAs.

When talking with some local Minnesota reporters after practice on Wednesday, Floyd expressed his appreciation for the chance the team has given him this year to join their roster.

"“I think you have chances in life. (With) the thing that happened to me, (the Vikings) taking a chance on me was the last straw. You want to accomplish all your goals and stuff like that, (so) you’ve got to have your head on straight. They know that’s what I’m doing now and I’m focused on helping this club win ballgames and learn.”"

The wide receiver said he had, “a lot of opportunities” to sign elsewhere this offseason. But ultimately, he could not pass up the chance to play for the team from his home state of Minnesota.

"“I never expected something like this to happen, but I’m excited to be home. (I’m) playing with guys that I know and just being with my family, so I’m excited to be here.I couldn’t be in a better position, right now especially, being (that) I’m home with family, friends, and also having teammates on the team that I can lean on for anything. When (the Vikings) said they wanted to sign me I was happy and I was jumping up and down to come home.”More from The Viking Age6 biggest draft steals in Minnesota Vikings historyFormer Vikings first-round pick could reportedly return to NFC NorthBears analyst has extremely embarrassing Kirk Cousins take6 Vikings who (maybe) won’t make the 53-man roster in 2023Predicting what the Vikings will do in the 2023 NFL Draft based on 2022"

Entering his sixth season in the NFL, the 27-year-old Floyd still has plenty of good football left before he retires and he talked about what he can offer to the Vikings’ offense in 2017.

"“I think experience. Especially this is the first time actually being the older guy in my position room. And just teaching guys. From Treadwell and all the younger guys, we sit down and talk about certain routes and stuff like that. Just nitpick on everyone’s game and just try to feed off of that.”"

Minnesota’s newest wide receiver seems like he is definitely in a much better state of mind due to the opportunity the Vikings have given him this year. Plus with a career average of 15.4 yards per catch, Floyd could be the downfield threat Minnesota has been lacking in their offense for the past few years.
