NFL.com released a list of the greatest guards of all time, which included former Minnesota Vikings offensive linemen Randall McDaniel and Steve Hutchinson.

When it comes to winning a game in the National Football League, much of it is done in the trenches. The Minnesota Vikings know this all too well, and have worked hard to ensure they have quality offensive linemen to protect the quarterback and make holes for running backs.

Recently, NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt of NFL.com put together a list of the top 27 guards of all time with two members of the Vikings being included among the best to ever play the position.

The two former Minnesota offensive linemen included in the list were Randall McDaniel and Steve Hutchinson.

More from The Viking Age

Hutchinson was ranked at #15. He was a member of the purple and gold from 2006 to 2011 after spending 5 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He finished his career with the Titans in 2012. Here is what Brandt listed for his accomplishments.

  • NFL 2000s All-Decade Team
  • Voted to seven Pro Bowls, First Team All-Pro five times
  • Started 169 of 169 NFL games

Meanwhile, McDaniel landed at #8 on the countdown. After being a first round draft pick by Minnesota in 1988, he stayed with the team through the 1999 season before spending his final two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here are his accomplishments shared by Brandt:

  • Voted to 12 Pro Bowls, First Team All-Pro seven times
  • Started 220 of 222 NFL games
  • Enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame
