Two former Minnesota Vikings made the list of best offensive tackles ever to play the game according to a recent list on the official NFL website.

Yesterday, The Viking Age shared a list from NFL.com highlighting the best guards to ever play on an offensive line. But NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt also compiled a list of the best offensive tackles ever to play the game as well, which included two former Minnesota Vikings.

Minnesota has actually had some luck when looking for anchors on left side of their offensive line, as two former members of their franchise have been enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Honored on the list are two former professional football blockers, Gary Zimmerman and Ron Yary. Both of which are highly deserving of their placement.

Zimmerman came in at #17 on the list. He was a member of Minnesota’s professional football team from 1986 until 1992 after getting the rights to him following his selection in the supplemental draft by the New York Giants. He finished his NFL career with the Denver Broncos. Here is what Brandt listed as his accomplishments:

More from The Viking Age

  • Voted to nine Pro Bowls; First Team All-Pro three times
  • One-time Super Bowl champion
  • Made 169 consecutive starts
  • Enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Earning the #12 spot on the list is Yary. Selected with the #1 overall selection in the 1968 draft, the offensive tackle spent from 1968 until 1981 with the Vikings before leaving Minnesota to spending  one season with the Los Angeles Rams prior to his retirement. Brant lists his accomplishments as follows:

  • Voted to seven Pro Bowls; First Team All-Pro six times
  • First O-lineman to be selected No. 1 overall
  • Enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Congratulations to former Minnesota Vikings Gary Zimmerman and Ron Yary on earning a spot on this list among the best tackles ever to play on an offensive line in the National Football League.
