It is something that has been assumed by many, but the Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback is not expected to suit up for training camp practice anytime soon.

Good luck finding someone, Minnesota Vikings fan or not, that is not rooting for Teddy Bridgewater to make it back onto the field after badly injuring his knee last year. His recovery process this offseason has been moving along well and there have even been thoughts floating around that the quarterback could possibly practice during the team’s training camp this year.

However, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer seems to think that Bridgewater will have to wait at least a little bit longer before he can be cleared to practice again with his teammates.

Zimmer spoke to the local media on Sunday at the team’s training camp facilities in Mankato, Minnesota. Rookies and select veteran players began to move into camp on Sunday as they will get some extra practice time before the rest of the roster shows up on Wednesday.

What Zimmer thinks about his quarterback really should not surprise anyone. While it would have been nice to see Bridgewater defy the odds and be out on the field for practice this week, it is obviously still too risky for the quarterback to get back out on the field at this moment.

Will he ever be cleared to practice before the end of training camp? That remains to be answered, but for now it looks like only Taylor Heinicke and Case Keenum will be battling for the Vikings’ backup quarterback job during the beginning of camp.
