<p>I tried to stay out of this one, I really did.</p>
<p>He&#8217;s a PUNTER for Pete&#8217;s sake! Who cares???</p>
<p>I figured the man had been through enough this week, and it would be classless of me to kick him while he&#8217;s down, that was until I started hearing reports of Kluwe hinting that maybe he was cut because of stance on gay marriage, and then it became pretty obvious that &#8220;class&#8221; went out the window when it comes to anything involving Chris Kluwe.</p>
<p>Now anybody that knows me knows I&#8217;m pretty vocal about my political beliefs, I am also aware that this is not the proper venue for me to display that side of me so I will do my best to refrain. I may have a difficult time given the fact that Kluwe and those in his camp have politicized what would normally would never be given a second thought&#8230; a punter&#8217;s release.</p>
<p>I also want it to be known that a few weeks ago I got into a pretty heated argument with the former Vikings punter over Twitter, so my ability to be completely objective about the situation is in question.</p>
<p>Now, here&#8217;s what I see. I see a punter who, a few years ago, was among the leagues best. Recently though, this punter has been on the decline. This punter actually ranked 22nd overall in the NFL last season. Not great&#8230;In fact, Kluwe finished 2012 ranked No. 31 (that&#8217;s REAL bad) among NFL punters the most important statistic for a punter: <strong>PUNTS DOWNED INSIDE THE 20</strong>. Of Kluwe&#8217;s 72 punts, 18 settled in what the league considers poor field position. By comparison, the Chicago Bears&#8217; Adam Podlesh nearly doubled Kluwe&#8217;s total among his 81 punts. Podlesh finished with 34, while Green Bay Packers punter Tim Masthay had 30 in 70 punts.</p>
<p>This punter that ranks in the bottom 33% of the league yet commands one of the highest salaries for punters in the league at nearly $1.5m.  This punters $1.5m salary goes against the cap of a team that has a lot of big name contracts they need to address, as well as 3 first round draft picks they need to sign.</p>
<p>This 31 year old punter has played 8 years with a team who&#8217;s whole philosophy for success revolves around getting younger. The same team that,  just last year, cut Pro-Bowl caliber PK Ryan Longwell (who was in no way an activist)  in favor of an unproven rookie, Blair Walsh.</p>
<p>Now you take all that into consideration, and somehow these nutcase reporters at Yahoo! sports come to the conclusion that he was cut because &#8220;<a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--chris-kluwe-s-release-by-vikings-sends-message-that-gay-marriage-talk-is-not-tolerable-in-nfl-204848762.html">gay-marriage talk is not tolerable in NFL</a>&#8220;??? Are you serious? These are &#8220;legitimate&#8221; journalists reporting this crap?</p>
<p>Now, I dont want anyone to think that I am anti-gay, or dont think they deserve equality. The reason I got upset with Kluwe is because he would preach equality and tolerance yet in his tweets would actually label those who disagreed with him as &#8220;bigots&#8221; and &#8220;idiots&#8221; and say he hopes some of them&#8221;DIE tonight&#8221;, and obviously these reporters feel that if someone is outspoken on a cause they pretend to care about so they can be accepted by all the politically correct left leaning robot reporters they surround themselves with, you aren&#8217;t allowed to fire them, doesn&#8217;t matter if they suck at their job,  If you do you will have to face wild, unfounded allegations. It&#8217;s flat out COWARDLY!</p>
<p>What would happen if an aging, high salary player who was very outspoken in favor of traditional marriage and Christian beliefs was cut after a sub-par season? Nothing.</p>
<p>Like I said, I really didn&#8217;t want to comment on any of this. That was until I saw the raging hypocrisy started to surface. Please see it for what it is people. Hypocrisy and Cowardess.</p>
<p>Please remember this is ripping the reporters, and the COWARDLY coverage thats being given to this story, while i may have disagreed with some of Kluwe&#8217;s statements and methods, I will not hesitate to give him props for being one of the best punters, and most colorful players the league has seen in awhile, and I hope he has continued success in the NFL.</p>
<p>I hope the Vikings stay silent on the subject and don&#8217;t try to appease this group of cowards with some made up PC nonsense statement, just let it blow over because the vast majority of people don&#8217;t care.</p>
<p>If your still reading thank you! I cant wait to hear the comments I get on this one.</p>

<div>In a world where most of the individual press is given to athletes that are getting into trouble for whatever reason,  a lot of  people don&#8217;t realize that most of the guys in league are good guys with a lot to offer as role models, and in the community. I was lucky enough to get to talk to one of these players when Minnesota Vikings second year DB, Josh Robinson, agreed to grant me an interview.</div>

<div> Hey Josh!</div>
<div>
<div> I want to thank you again for taking the time to do this, I along with everyone at The Viking Age are excited to have a little insight into your world as it pertains to the Vikings.  So let&#8217;s get started&#8230;</div>
<div>.</div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>TVA</strong>: As I&#8217;m sure you are aware there&#8217;s going to be quite a few new face&#8217;s around when you report back to Winter Park, What offseason acquisition are you most excited about getting to work with this season?</div>
<div>.</div>
<div><strong>JR21</strong>: <em>I&#8217;m excited about all the new help we acquired, looking very promising! </em></div>
<div>.</div>
</div>
<div><strong>TVA</strong>: Obviously this young secondary will miss the presence  of someone like Antoine Winfield, what are some of the things that you learned from him that you use to help develop your game, and that you can also pass along to someone like Xavier Rhoades who&#8217;s just coming into the league?</div>
<div>
<div><strong>.</strong></div>
<div><strong> JR21</strong>: <em>well I think in time I&#8217;ll know what type of areas he need help in and when, or if the things Antoine has taught me are useful I will share! </em></div>
<div>.</div>
</div>
<div><strong>TVA</strong>: You grew up down in Florida and played your high school and college ball down there, after this season it looks like you guys will be playing outdoors in the FRIGID Minnesota winters for two years, are you ready for that?</div>
<div>.</div>
<div>
<div><strong>JR21</strong>:<em> right now probably not, but by that time Lord willing I hope so!</em></div>
<div>.</div>
</div>
<div><strong>TVA</strong>: I think that with both you, and Harrison Smith going into your second years, along with additions like Sharrif and Xavier, that this has the potential to be a top ten defense, whats one area you think this defense MUST improve on to reach that goal?</div>
<div>.</div>
<div>
<div><strong>JR21</strong>:<em>  I think consistency is key for us we have shown some good things last year and if we are consistent then we can be THE top Defense! </em></div>
<div>.</div>
</div>
<div><strong>TVA</strong>:You had a good rookie season, and i think 2013 could be a breakout year for you. Whats one area of your game that you want to improve on the most from 2012 to 2013?</div>
<div>.</div>
<div>
<div><strong>JR21</strong>:<em> technique. I want to become better with my technique in all areas! A technician! </em></div>
<div>.</div>
</div>
<div><strong> TVA:</strong> Conventional wisdom says that Cordarelle Patterson will handle the bulk of kick returns, but we all know you are beyond fast and can also do some special things with the ball in your hands, are going to be in Coach Priefer&#8217;s ears trying to get some reps in the return game as well?</div>
<div>.</div>
<div>
<div><strong>JR21</strong>: <em>definitely!</em></div>
<div>.</div>
</div>
<div><strong>TVA</strong>: I know you bring your own skill set to the table, but is there any player in the league that you most look up too and maybe try to model your game after?</div>
<div>.</div>
<div>
<div><strong>JR21</strong><em>: I try to grow by watching all DB&#8217;s, no one guy in particular! My all time favorite player was Brian Dawkins! Loved the way he played the game!</em></div>
<div>.</div>
</div>
<div><strong>TVA</strong>: I agree! Dawkins Just looked intimidating lurking back there. Now, you guys open up the season on the road in Detroit, against Megatron and the Lion&#8217;s, he&#8217;s just one of many big name recievers you will go up against this year. Is there one particular WR you are most looking forward to going against this year? (I personally am looking forward to seeing you guys try to lock down Dez Bryant!)</div>
<div>
<div>.</div>
<div><strong>JR21</strong>:<em> both of those guys are great WR&#8217;s but I&#8217;m excited just to have another year Lord willing of playing in the NFL and look forward to all the top receivers this year!</em></div>
</div>
<div>.</div>
<div><strong>TVA</strong>: From everything I know about you, you seem to be a real respectable, humble guy. I know you&#8217;re a family man, and you&#8217;re also a very outspoken man of God. Do these personal traits help you in your professional life as player at all? If so, how?</div>
<div>
<div>.</div>
<div><strong>JR21</strong><em>: Well because of God those things can be said, without Him I couldn&#8217;t be in this position so yes it helps me as a professional player! </em></div>
<div>.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div><em><strong> </strong></em><strong>TVA</strong>: Finally, as you know there are some lofty expectations for this team going into the season, and we all know what a competitive division the NFC north is. Whats it going to take for the Vikings to win this hyper-competitive division?</div>
<div>.</div>
<div><strong>JR21</strong>:<em>  show up playing good ball week in and week out! As I said earlier, consistency!</em></div>
<div>.</div>
</div>
<div><strong> TVA</strong> : Again, on behalf of myself along with everyone at <a href="http://TheVikingAge.com" target="_blank">TheVikingAge.com</a>,  thanks for taking some time out of your day to let those of us out here in Viking land get to be a little more familiar with you as a player and a person, it&#8217;s been a pleasure!</div>
<div>
<div>.</div>
<div><strong>JR21:</strong> <em>thanks for having me, good questions I appreciate the interest and opportunity!</em></div>
<div>.</div>
<div></div>
</div>
<div></div>
<div>
<div id="attachment_11410" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 160px"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-11410" title="NFL: Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings" src="http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/63/files/2013/05/69156962-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports</p></div>

<div> I really look forward to seeing what this kid can do in his second season, I think that with him, Xavier, Chris Cook, Sanford and Harrison Smith the Vikings have a secondary in place that can compete with the explosive passing attacks in the NFC North.</div>

Also FS Darius Eubanks out of Georgia Southern comes in at 6&#8217;2/ 203 lbs and is a steal, he will be able to compete for a roster spot. Iowa QB James Vandenberg adds to the mediocrity at the position after a terrible 2012 season. And someone from a place called Furman, that is not Jerome Felton has also made it into the NFL, as the Vikings sign RB Jerodis Williams and I had to dig deep to find info on the guy but it looks like he comes in at 5&#8217;11 /203 lbs and ran a 4.50 40. I like the moves, just adding depth to take into camp.</p>
