So I’m thinking to myself, “Okay, Al Davis just pulled his yearly boner and drafted Darrius Heyward-Bey. So, if the Niners don’t want Michael Crabtree, could he actually fall far enough for the Vikings to have a shot at trading up for him? I mean, if you’re willing to take a chance on a guy like Percy Harvin, which we believe the Vikings are, why wouldn’t you be willing to take the same chance on Crabtree, a guy with a known diva attitude but oodles more NFL-ready skills than Harvin? Could happen…”

No. But, it was a nice dream, for a minute.

Rick Gosselin, aka The Goose, aka the Mock Drafter All the Mock Drafters Want to Be, has prognosticated via his final mock of the year that the Vikings will pull a shocker and use their #22 pick on Josh Freeman, quarterback out of Kansas State. All due respect to Mr. Gosselin and his gigantic mock drafting reputation…but that is not going to happen. Percy Harvin will swear off pot before Josh Freeman is a Viking. Al Davis will admit he’s a drooling old fool before we see Freeman lining up under center for the Purple. By the way, Gosselin thinks neither Percy Harvin nor Eben Britton will go in the first round. I guarantee you at least one of those guys will go in the first 32. Gosselin’s been passing the pipe with Percy. Okay I’m gonna lay off the Percy Harvin pot jokes now.

A number of things factored into the Giants‘ decision to give Plaxico Burress his walking papers today: his on-going legal trouble; Drew Rosenhaus‘s open invitation to other teams to try and make a trade for him; Plax’s overall lack of team-first attitude; the good chance that Plax will face a healthy suspension by the NFL when he returns from whatever jail time he will see. And these same things will be on the mind of any team that considers signing the receiver, who is 31 now and unfortunately more known for shooting himself in the leg than being a big-time player on a championship squad. In other words, don’t look for the Vikings to so much as sniff the guy. This dude is radioactive to any team that cares about character and chemistry over talent. He’d be a good fit on a Jerry Jones or an Al Davis team, but not a Zygi Wilf one.
