Visanthe Shiancoe is known for saying and doing some pretty outrageous things, including tweeting a picture that accused Darren Sharper of being an Osama Bin Laden-like terrorist, but his latest shenanigan may be the most ill-advised of all.

It all began when Visanthe started tweeting his feelings about the NFL’s new safety rules, and specifically, the controversial call against Ndamukong Suh for unnecessary roughness on Jay Cutler this weekend. Nothing really shocking about that, given the number of players who’ve openly criticized this policy. However, Shiancoe then kicked things up a notch by appearing to suggest that the NFL has it in for the Lions. Shiancoe tweeted:

Now it’s always possible that Shiancoe meant something innocent by his tweet and I am wildly misinterpreting it. It’s always possible that the guy who bragged after his dong made it on national TV, pissed off Brett Favre by talking about his non-retirement texts with reporters and compared Darren Sharper to Osama Bin Laden was not actually accusing the NFL of conspiring against one of its teams.

Let’s hope Roger Goodell doesn’t also misread Shank’s intentions, otherwise Shank may find himself with a much lighter wallet. Does Shank hang out with Jesse Ventura a lot?

The Vikings‘ new quest for Super Bowl glory will begin where the last one ended: the Superdome in New Orleans.

The bitter feeling from January’s NFC Title Game has barely subsided, and here we are already preparing for the re-match. Those seven-and-a-half months went by quickly, and they were certainly eventful.

Since January 24th, we’ve seen Brett Favre almost retire, then waffle, then reluctantly return. We’ve seen top receiver Sidney Rice undergo a hip surgery that will keep him out for half the season. We’ve watched Percy Harvin collapse on the practice field, Ray Edwards grumble about his contract, Sage Rosenfels get traded. We’ve fretted about the Williams Wall and the ongoing StarCaps case. We’ve worried ourselves sick about the secondary.

We lost Chester Taylor to free agency, and also our best back-up offensive lineman Artis Hicks. We drafted Chris Cook, Toby Gerhart and a project quarterback named Joe Webb. We speculated about Vincent Jackson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, but ended up adding Greg Camarillo.

It was, in short, another crazy off-season for the Vikings. And now it’s over and the real action can begin.

The first opponent: The Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints.

To all the Vikings fans out there who think Brad Childress is a nincompoop who only has a job today because he lucked into Brett Favre: You’re not alone.

Evidently, Brett Favre himself agrees with you. And so do most of his Vikings teammates.

This less-than-shocking revelation comes to us via a Yahoo! report that mostly quotes a single unnamed Viking player. This player claims that Childress has almost no respect in the locker room, thanks largely to incidents like the other day when, for reasons known only to Childress himself, he ordered a couple of his assistants to lie about where Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson and Ryan Longwell were when everyone already knew they were in Mississippi talking Favre into coming back.

“Chilly can’t even tell the truth about that,” the snitch said. “I mean, how ridiculous is that? What’s the big deal that he has to lie? Worse, he has to tell other guys to lie for him?”

Childress ended up apologizing for the incident at the beginning of his Wednesday press conference. Unfortunately, that alone will not be enough to repair the deep feelings of Chilly-hatred that are running rampant through the Vikings locker room.

Evidently, not even a blood sacrifice would be enough to bring around the most important Viking of all, Brett Favre.
