Hines Ward and Emmit Smith won the competition in the past, and Tuesday night Donald Driver joined them, defeating Katherine Jenkins and William Levy to claim the Mirror Ball trophy. There’s a trivia question for you: Name the three men who have won both the Lombardi and the Mirror Ball. Driver now gets to claim that distinction alongside Ward and Smith. But Ward is still the only one of the three to survive a terrorist attack by Bane. That’s way more awesome than winning a dance show.

All kidding aside, it’s a great accomplishment for Driver. It takes nerve for a man to go out there on national TV and shake his butt in those costumes. Gotta be pretty secure in yourself. And to defeat an opera singer and a telenovela actor in direct competition? I don’t know what to say. That’s just impressive as heck. Good for you Donald and I hope you get your contract worked out with the Packers.

The Lions dominate today’s trip around the NFC North…

Lions LB Stephen Tulloch has knee tendinitis and will miss 3-4 weeks. In better news, Jahvid Best reported for OTAs and was a full participant in the first day. There had been some doubt about Best’s football future after the running back missed the last ten games of the season with a concussion. Things are not so rosy for Titus Young who was excused from Monday’s OTAs after reportedly “sucker punching” Louis Delmas. Kids these days…

In Chicago…the Bears and Matt Forte are still at an impasse in contract negotiations. The Bears have a chance to seriously contend in 2012 and would do well to get Forte in the fold. Or they could get Chester Taylor on the horn. Or not..

Lombardi Ave. asks, are the Packers and Donald Driver working behind the scenes? Does Driver have time in between dance rehearsals and costume fittings?

Let us return now to the saga of Tori Gurley, Green Bay Packers practice squad receiver. When last we left Tori he was telling the Vikings thanks but no thanks after they offered him a chance to leave the Packers practice squad and become a full-fledged member of an NFL roster. Gurley’s reason for turning down the Vikings? He preferred staying in Green Bay because they really know how to develop receivers.

That was his stated reason at least. Further inquiry revealed one interesting fact: that the Packers gave Gurley a significant pay bump. This no doubt played a role in Gurley’s decision to spurn the Vikings. Gurley was also certainly influenced by the belief that Donald Driver was about to leave, opening up a roster spot.
