Zygi Wilf and Brad Childress both offered their reaction to Brett Favre‘s comments on Joe Buck Live (neither had anything to say about Artie Lange turning Buck’s show into an episode of Howard Stern). First Wilf:

We will do the most we can to get the players we need to be a better team. If that means Brett Favre or means sombody else, we’ll go after them. We’ll just have to wait and see. Right now it’s all up to Brett Favre to determine what his future is.

And Chilly:

[Favre] said everything that he needed to say. He’s trying to make a push to get back. I know he won’t play unless he feels like he’s capable of playing at level he’s played over the course of his career.

There’s no downside to good players. As far as distractions, if distractions are good football players, we’ll take all the distractions.

The fun is all gone from this story for sure. Once Favre confirmed he was coming back…over. Nothing but generic statements from here on in. There isn’t even any fake dirt for Ed Werder to dig up. And there’s certainly no longer any point in dispatching Rachel Nichols to Mississippi to stand around waiting for Favre to appear, like a Yeti. That was futile anyway; Favre said on Joe Buck that, when he saw the satellite trucks, he just snuck out of his house through the back door. ESPN couldn’t figure out that he had a back door? Now I know how Woody Paige and Skip Bayless remain employed by that network. They are that clueless.

ESPN says that, yes, a trainer from the Vikings did make the journey to Mississippi to meet Brett Favre and, yes, they did discuss Brett’s shoulder (I don’t know what else they would’ve discussed – the situation in Iran maybe?). The report goes on to say that the trainer suggested exercises to Brett that might help the recovery process. In other words, the Vikings are not merely standing by while Brett gets his shoulder right, they are actively participating in said recovery, just like he was already a member of the team.

It’s possible that we will learn more tonight when Favre appears on the debut episode of Joe Buck‘s new HBO show, which is set to air at 8 pm central. I don’t have HBO, but if I’m able to get a pirated stream online (did I just say that on a public blog?), I will probably post some tweets about what Brett says. You can follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/acforever. Or click the little button over there in the sidebar.

The debut of Joe Buck‘s new HBO show will probably suck – it is, after all, going to be hosted by Joe Buck – but at least it will be newsworthy, thanks to an announced interview with probable future Vikings quarterback Brett Favre. I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that Joe will be asking Brett about the swirl of rumors and speculation that have surrounded him like a hurricane these last couple of months; and I’m further going to guess that Brett will give very heartfelt and honest answers that neither confirm nor refute any of the aforementioned rumors. In other words, if you’re looking for Brett to announce that he’s coming back with the Vikings Monday night on HBO, don’t bother. That being said, I’m sure Brett will make plenty of the kinds of vague comments that provide fodder for the sort of reading between the lines that is the lifeblood of blogs like this one. Should be interesting, even if ultimately nothing is resolved or even really clarified much.
