Bernard Berrian Carted Off the Field

Bernard Berrian has left the Vikings’ preseason opener with some sort of leg injury. Kevin Seifert says the injury was serious enough for Berrian to be driven off on a cart. This mars what has been a pretty impressive night for the Vikes offense. Sage Rosenfels has looked crisp in two drives, hitting on all sorts of different patterns to receivers, tight ends and backs. He seems to have command of the offense. T-Jack looks great on the sideline with the headset on.

The defense was pretty good too, sacking Peyton Manning thrice. Most of the defensive starters have now been yanked.

Update: Chilly let Tarvaris have a shot with the other offensive starters in. The result, a stunning drop-off from when Sage was in the game. No surprise there.

Seifert: "Suspicious Amount of Secrecy" Surrounding Tarvaris Jackson Injury

Are the Vikings more worried about Tarvaris Jackson‘s MCL sprain than they’re letting on? Kevin Seifert thinks there’s something at least a little fishy, as he expressed in this tweet:

Suspicious amount of secrecy for what is a supposed to be a mild injury, but no evidence T-Jack is hurt worse than original report.

The injury is said to be a grade 1 sprain, which is the least serious.

According to Access Vikings, Tarvaris spent Monday working on a stationary bike and doing some running, then stood around watching practice. With a brace on. And no word yet from the Vikes on when he will return.

You know what I think? Less work for Tarvaris means more for Sage Rosenfels, who was always going to win the starting job anyway. And it means more reps for John David Booty who might wind up being the back-up quarterback before all is said and done.

If Tarvaris stays on the shelf long enough, even Percy Harvin, who got snaps as a Wildcat QB during OTAs, might pass him on the depth chart. And that would be just fine with me. I’ve seen all of T-Jack I ever need to see. No, I’m not happy that he’s hurt – I just don’t care if he ever plays again.

Update: Antoine Winfield Fails to Show for Minicamp

Judd Zulgad and Kevin Seifert are both reporting (Seifert via Facebook) that Antoine Winfield was a no-show for today’s mandatory minicamp session. There is no official word on why Antoine is not there, but we all know Antoine was trying to negotiate a contract extension this off-season and those talks broke down. For what it’s worth, in a recent interview, Erin Henderson said Antoine intended showing up for the minicamp, which is, as I said before, mandatory. Guess Erin’s not a great source. Of course, it’s always possible Antoine’s absence had nothing to do with his contract, and it was excused. And it’s also possible that I will look out my window and see a pig winging by.

The off-season was so dull until Antoine decided to hold out. Good thing we now have something to discuss.

By the way, Judd Zulgad has been posting updates from minicamp on Twitter. Evidently John David Booty just hit Percy Harvin for a 40 yarder. Who needs Favre? You can also follow me on Twitter. Update: No controversy. Antoine Winfield is off attending a family funeral and has permission to miss the entire three-day minicamp. Pig flying.
