Why would you want to cut Donovan McNabb? Because he runs his mouth? I seem to remember a certain quarterback we had here for a couple of years who also liked running his mouth, and I don’t remember people calling for him to be cut after he no longer played. Yes I’m talking about Brett Favre. People were find with Favre standing on the sideline doing nothing while Joe Webb played. They even thought Favre might be a help to Webb. But McNabb, they figure, is nothing but a bad influence on Christian Ponder. That’s a pretty serious slam against Donovan’s professionalism and frankly I’m bothered by that. Let’s look at what Donovan said specifically. All he said was that he thinks he should still be the starter and he doesn’t think it’s fair for him to get all the blame for the losses. Well? What do you want him to say? “I’m terrible and it’s all my fault?” Donovan is saying what anyone in his position would say. If you don’t like it, ignore it. I’m guessing Leslie Frazier doesn’t think it’s a big deal at all. Leslie knows that, in Donovan, he has himself a solid veteran back-up who has wisdom to impart to the rookie and will be ready if you need him in a pinch. So I say the Vikings should keep Donovan.

I have maintained that some of the goal of playing Ponder was to see what we had in the young man. I liked the decision on many fronts. First, pitiful teams don’t put the booty in the beautiful blue seats. Backup QBs with promise, taken in the first round of the NFL draft, put Purple Nurples in the chairs. So from a business perspective…a win. Second, you had to see what you had. If Ponder looked like a deer in the headlights when the cameras were rolling and said first round QB is a distant relative of Ryan Leaf then that is a problem.

Olof:

Leslie Frazier is absolutely doing a great job for the Vikings. He knew the time was right to end the McNabb era and give Christian Ponder his chance. And look how Ponder responded! He almost beat those durn Packers. He also made the right call getting rid of Bernard Berrian. That man was becoming a huge distraction. You can’t have guys with bad attitudes poisoning the locker room, especially when you have a young quarterback. Leslie gave both McNabb and Bernard every chance to contribute and neither guy stepped up, so…OUT OF HERE! Leslie doesn’t mess around, as Bryant McKinnie also found out. Oh and let’s not forget about the Chris Cook situation. What a horrible position that young man put his coach and teammates in. He deserved to get suspended. Leslie has handled that perfectly as well. The message he’s sending is clear: If you’re a malcontent or a miscreant, forget about playing for the Vikings. It’s a new day in Minnesota thanks to Leslie Frazier.
