Take this for what it’s worth. Viking Update has an eyeball witness who will testify to seeing Morris Claiborne’s contingent in possession of Vikings gear in New York. Okay I have a few questions. Were they wearing the gear at the time or just carrying it? Is it possible they were given the gear of all the teams that might take Claiborne and just liked the Viking stuff best? Could the witness have been mistaken and it was really Lakers gear? Cause the colors are kind of similar. In a certain light…

Well I guess that sews it up. Morris Claiborne will be the Vikings’ pick. Matt Kalil might as well start packing his bags for Buffalo. Good job Rick Spielman. You talked up Morris Claiborne and convinced the Bills you had no interest in drafting Kalil, so they didn’t even bother making the trade. They’ll just sit at 10 and let Kalil fall to them. Yeah you’re the smokescreen master Rick.

Peter King says the Vikings will take Kalil in spite of all the smoke. Then there’s Michael Lombardi who just tweeted, “Minnesota seems focused on Claiborne and getting a tackle in the second round…not sure I agree.”

Okay let’s settle this once and for all. King vs. Lombardi in a clam eating contest. Who you got? My money’s on King. He looks like the sort of dude who can eat a lot of clams. Anybody else getting kind of silly in the head?

Well here’s a positive development for the people who want the Vikings to stay at #3 and draft Matt Kalil: Peter King says he expects Minnesota to do just that. Though King would personally take Morris Claiborne, he believes the Vikings will go with the left tackle, and pegs Trumaine Johnson as someone the Vikes would pluck in the second round to fill their need at cornerback. King says nothing about the alternative idea of trading down one or two spots, snaring an extra pick someplace and still taking Kalil.

King is obviously a well-connected insider and long-time NFL guru, but that doesn’t mean he necessarily has all the dope. At least one local columnist, Bob Sansevere, has looked Rick Spielman in the eye and is convinced Spielman will take Claiborne instead of Kalil. Who is right? Who is wrong? Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things?

We’re mere hours away from knowing.
