For the second straight year an NFC team that barely squeaked into the playoffs has gone on to win the Super Bowl. The game was a snooze until the fourth quarter when it became a classic. Things got bizarre when, rather than let the Giants milk clock and kick a winning FG, the Patriots elected to let Ahmad Bradshaw walk into the endzone for a go-ahead TD. The weird thing was, Bradshaw actually tried not to score the TD, but his momentum carried him into the endzone. (more…)

The last tiny shred of hope the Vikings still had of making the playoffs disappeared tonight with their loss to the Giants. By losing their 8th game, the Vikings put themselves out of wild card contention, and also lost any chance of tying the 9-win Bears for the division lead. After a run of two straight post-season appearances, the Vikings find themselves back where they were in the second year of the Brad Childress regime, struggling to make it to .500. The future looks bleak for this franchise, given their stadium situation, their lack of a long-term quarterback and a head coaching situation that appears to be in limbo.

Fans were given free admission to the Vikings-Giants game in Detroit…and those tickets may have been overpriced. The first half between these two teams was just a brutal display of football. Eli Manning threw two picks early, but the Vikings could not capitialize. The Giants then got things under control and began showing that they are clearly the better team. Brandon Jacobs keyed the first Giants scoring drive with a 73-yard run. The Giants got their second TD of the second quarter when Eli Manning completed an efficient drive by hitting Kevin Boss for a 6-yard score. Tarvaris Jackson‘s so-so first half in place of the injured Brett Favre would’ve mattered less had the Vikings gotten any run game going at all, but unfortunately, Adrian Peterson was held to 16 yards on 10 carries, his worst two quarters of football in many a moon. The Vikings’ defense looks listless, the offense looks uninspired…and right now it looks like the Vikings are on their way to their 8th loss of the season. Unless the Vikings get things fired up in the second half, this will go down as a total surrender game for the Purple.
