Viking fans finally have something to crow about. NFL.com has released a short list of the greatest announcer calls in NFL history, and the #1 spot belongs to the voice of the Vikings Paul Allen. And guess which famous PA call gets the nod? Want a hint?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Yes indeed. PA’s call of the last-second Josh McCown-to-Nathan Poole play that knocked the Vikings plumb out of the playoffs in 2003 has been deemed the greatest announcer call ever. It even beat out Jack Fleming’s call of the legendary Immaculate Reception. Hear that Viking fans? We won something!

Do the Vikings Have a Problem With Chad Greenway Too?

Is it time to add Chad Greenway to the growing list of Viking players who are suffering from mild to severe cases of off-season discontent?

Don’t know. But there is something slightly mysterious going on with him.

Apparently, throughout this weekend’s minicamp, Greenway came out to stretch with the team, but instead of practicing, returned with other injured players to the locker room.

This morning, the linebacker spoke to KFAN’s Paul Allen about the situation. “Coach and I had a little agreement and that’s all I can say about that,” he explained, adding, “You’ll have to ask the head guy about that one.”

It turns out, someone did ask the head guy about that one after the first day of minicamp. And Brad Childress said he did not know why Greenway wasn’t practicing.

Interesting agreement, that involves one party not knowing what is going on.

Though Greenway refused to really elaborate, he did shoot down the possibility that he is upset about his contract. “You know that’s not me,” he said.

So it wasn’t a contract thing, and it wasn’t a Chad Greenway Day conflict. Hopefully, Chilly will fill us in on the details. I’d hate to be left in suspense about this.

Tommie Harris Calls Bobby Wade a Liar

Bobby Wade told Paul Allen on KFAN earlier today that Brian Urlacher thinks new Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is a word that rhymes with “wussy.” Certain Bears players aren’t convinced Urlacher ever said this though, or at least are doing a good job of pretending they don’t think he did. Tommie Harris, for instance, tweeted this at PFT’s Mike Florio, the man who broke the p-word story in the first place:

lac [Urlacher] didn’t say that u guys are full of it and tell bobby Wade will see about that…..

Oh, so Tommie Harris thinks Bobby Wade is a lair? Maybe Tommie thinks Bobby fabricated the story just to make trouble in the Bears locker room?

Sorry, but I believe Bobby Wade. I think Urlacher did say that about Cutler, and now the Bears are in damage-control mode. They know how fragile Cutler’s ego is; they saw plenty of evidence in the way he reacted to stuff in Denver, including his perceived snubbing by Josh McDaniels. They know that pretty much anything can set Cutler off, even something trivial like this. I’m actually shocked he hasn’t already demanded a trade.

Brett Favre isn’t the only drama-queen quarterback the Vikings are lucky to have missed out on this off-season. Good luck Bears, trying to win a division with this prickly, sulking weenie running the offense. You were better off with Kyle Orton. He sucked but at least you didn’t have to worry about him tearing the locker room apart.
