The Vikings‘ quarterback situation went from precarious to dire last night after Tarvaris Jackson joined Brett Favre among the ranks of the walking wounded. If Jackson’s toe injury proves serious and Favre’s hand remains purple, the Vikings could find themselves with only Joe Webb and R.J. Archer to play QB Monday night against the Bears (in Metrodome or TCF Bank Stadium or wherever that game ends up being played).

Not wanting to face the prospect of playing a prime time NFL game with only Webb and/or Archer to choose from, the Vikings are reportedly looking at bringing in quarterback Patrick Ramsey for a work out. Try not to get too excited.

Ramsey is probably best known for playing with the Redskins where for about five minutes he was considered a potential QB of the future. It didn’t work out for Ramsey in Washington though, and since then…well, to say he has bounced around would be an understatement. In fact, he has played for 8 different teams since leaving the Skins.

This year, Ramsey was set to back up Drew Brees in New Orleans before Chase Daniel beat him out. He then had short stints with the Jaguars and Dolphins before hitting the street again.

If the Vikings try Ramsey out and like what they see, the QB who hasn’t played in a regular season game since 2008 when he attempted 3 passes for Denver could wind up starting against the Chicago Bears. Yes, that’s how bad it’s gotten. But, look at the bright side: At least he ain’t Spergon Wynn.
