It’s been amusing watching the sports media world respond to the Raiders’ release of cornerback Stanford Routt in an obvious cost-cutting move. Routt is by all accounts a decent player but hardly a coveted free agent commodity. Yet by the level of reaction over the last few hours you’d swear this guy was another Nnamdi Asomugha.

How to explain the massive surge of Routt-related interest? Well that’s obvious enough. It’s the NFL. Because the NFL is the biggest thing in the history of ever, everything that happens related to the NFL becomes way too big a deal. An okay cornerback hitting the market early, in this world of blogs and Twitter, explodes like ten Hiroshima bombs.

And I want to get in on the action. So here’s my post on Stanford Routt.
