With the departure of Rhett Ellison to the New York Giants and the lingering effects of the division rival Chicago Bears stealing 2015 third-round pick MyCole Pruitt off the Vikings practice squad, David Morgan remains as the lone tight end behind Kyle Rudolph.

While it looks as if Morgan will take over the duties of free agent fullback Zach Line, the Vikings are lacking a consistent number two receiving threat behind Rudolph. With the heated pursuit of now Oakland Raiders tight end Jared Cook, the team is clearly looking for depth behind Rudolph.

Former Louisville tight end Cole Hikutini has the ability to be an in line tight end, but he’s shown to be most comfortable flexed out, and involved in the passing game. Exactly what the Vikings are looking for as an immediate option behind Rudolph.

Hikutini finished last season with 50 catches for 688 yards and eight touchdowns. All impressive stats for a tight end. He provides depth behind Rudolph, while also being a reliable option as a blocker and a receiving threat.
