The best option

Between the current roster, the draft, and free agency, there will be some tempting options. The Minnesota Vikings will be looking for some experience or untapped talent to back up Kirk Cousins but the route the team takes to get one.

Kyle Sloter has done enough in the preseason and has been around the team long enough to be heavily considered for the team’s backup quarterback role and should be awarded the role since he performed well enough to be the backup last season.

With Cousins as the starter and Sloter as the backup, this opens up a competition for a late-round quarterback, undrafted free agent, or inexpensive free agent to take the third spot on the depth chart.

This allows the Vikings to use their salary cap in other spots, save their early draft picks to use on the best players available at positions of need, and give some talented players opportunities to shine in new roles.
