Vikings seven round 2019 NFL mock draft: Free agency edition
By Adam Carlson
Round 7 Pick 2: Matt Gay, kicker – Utah
First, let’s say drafting kicker isn’t always a horrible thing. The Minnesota Vikings should still sign a veteran kicker to bring in to compete with a rookie this year since the team can’t seem to find a long-term solution at the spot.
Also, the Vikings shouldn’t look to anything other than an extremely late round pick or an undrafted free agent to bring into camp for this battle. With that said, Matt Gay might be the man to push for the job while wearing purple and gold.
Gay was 85-for-85 on extra points during his two seasons with Utah and connected on 56 of his 65 field goal attempts, making 86.2% percent of those attempts. By those standards, accuracy shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Minnesota needs to find a nice core of special teams guys to have for many years to come. They seem to like Kevin McDermott and Matt Wile a lot, so now all they need to do is find a solid kicker to add to the group. Sounds easy enough, right? Right?
What do you think of this seven-round mock draft? Does it fill the Minnesota Vikings team needs well heading into free agency? Are the individual players chosen ones who will help the team ascend to the next level? Let us know in the comments section!
