Mekhi Becton – OT (Louisville)

There are a handful of offensive tackles who could be selected in the top half of the 2020 NFL Draft. Jedrick Willis, Andrew Thomas, and Tristan Wirfs are just a few of the names who many scouts see as future left tackles in the league. The Vikings would love to land a big man who they could envision as the eventual replacement for Riley Reiff.

Reiff was serviceable for the most part last season. He had some good games, but he also had plenty of bad ones sprinkled in for good measure.

Reiff’s best football is probably behind him, so his play next year could be worse. If Minnesota wants a left tackle who could start as a rookie, they’ll likely have to move up in the draft to land him. If they are going to do that, why not get a guy who is as rare as they come in Louisville’s Mekhi Becton.

At 6-foot-7 and 368 pounds, guys this big aren’t supposed to move the way Becton does. He’s extremely quick out of his stance and he can get downfield in a hurry to make blocks at the second level.

He uses his big frame to crash down on unsuspecting defensive tackles and open up huge holes in the running game. Becton is also extremely powerful and he often just uses his brute strength to toss his man onto the turf. He’s an extremely impressive looking prospect who should start on day one.

If the Vikings want Becton, they’ll likely have to trade into the top 10 to do it. They’d have to probably get up to pick No. 7 to get ahead of the Arizona Cardinals and the Cleveland Browns.

The cost to do this would probably be pretty high. Minnesota would likely have to give up their 2020 second-round pick and maybe even next year’s first-round selection. But landing a starter at left tackle for the next decade would be worth it.
