Should the Vikings trade for Beckham?

The chances of the Minnesota Vikings targeting Odell Beckham Jr. appear slim. However, that is not to suggest something like this is being contemplated by the decision-makers within the franchise.

They still have a relatively large amount of cap space compared to what the Vikings had to start free agency. If Anthony Harris is eventually shipped out and offensive tackle Riley Reiff is restructured or released, more funds will be available for the organization to work with.

This is as bold a move as the Vikings could do to improve their fortunes. Getting Beckham Jr. to the franchise would be a high-risk gamble that would bring significant rewards if it came off.

Despite losing some familiar faces this offseason, this is still a talented roster capable of big things. If they can shore up the offensive line and make additions to their secondary then there is a real chance they can wrestle back the NFC North title from the Green Bay Packers.

Putting Beckham in this sort of offense is something that he has rarely had in his career to date. If things are not going well questions will be asked of the decision, but the time for delaying a move that potentially jeopardizes their long-term chances was over as soon as the Vikings gave Kirk Cousins a fully guaranteed two-year extension worth $66 million.

This highlighted the need for Minnesota to make moves to ensure they are competitive right now. A potential Beckham trade is a mouth-watering proposition that could have huge ramifications for the franchise.
