Give Metellus a look at safety

This is more of a knock on Anthony Harris than it is a ringing endorsement of Josh Metellus and his talents. The fact is that Harris looked completely disinterested in last week’s game against the Saints. It was apparent that he’s ready for the offseason and to begin a tenure with a new ball club.

If Harris comes out again looking flat and unmotivated, the Vikings shouldn’t hesitate to pull him and put his butt on the bench. Many Minnesota fans would rather see a less talented, but highly motivated rookie play in the place of a veteran who no longer cares or tries anymore. Metellus will be eager to prove himself and get his name in the mix to start next year after Harris’ expected departure.

Metellus has already proven to be a core special teamer. The guy plays with a ton of energy and he can get down the field to cover quickly on punts and kicks. He isn’t the greatest in pass coverage, but he is a willing tackler, and having him on the field could actually help the Vikings’ porous run defense.

Harris will likely be playing his last game in purple this Sunday, so the Vikings might as well see what Metellus brings to the table and give him a bigger taste of live-action on the defensive side of the ball.
