It wasn’t surprising to see the Vikings not draft a kicker in 2020 since they had Dan Bailey on their roster, who was coming off a season where he hit 93.1 percent of his field goals.

Minnesota also still had a horrible lingering taste of Daniel Carlson in their mouth and it’s pretty safe to assume that the Vikings won’t be drafting a kicker again until there’s a new general manager making the decisions.

That being said, if Minnesota knew what they know now, with how Bailey’s season turned out and how good this young kicker is, they would’ve jumped at the opportunity to take Tyler Bass.

The Vikings could’ve used the pick they wasted on K.J. Osborn to take Bass. Osborn was a huge bust in year one and wasn’t prepared or even athletically qualified to be the team’s return man as they anointed him.

Bass would’ve been a much better choice. He hit 82.4 percent of his field goals and 96.6 percent of his extra points during the 2020 regular season. This guy was money in clutch situations and he was even able to hit from as far as 58 yards out.

That would have been a huge upgrade from Bailey’s embarrassing 68.2 field-goal percentage mark he set in 2020. Bass’s accuracy could’ve been the difference in a couple of ball games and the Vikings would’ve had the luxury of knowing their kicking woes were finally over.
