Vikings Free Agency 2022: Arrivals, departures, and rumors from Day 1
By Adam Patrick
Signings – Day 1
Greg Joseph – K (Tendered)
- Contract: 1 year, $2.43 million
On Monday, the Vikings announced that they had tendered a one-year deal to kicker Greg Joseph worth a reported $2.43 million. The tender Minnesota placed on Joseph is the right-of-first-refusal tender, meaning the Vikings can match any contract offer that the kicker might get from another team this offseason.
Harrison Phillips – DT
- 2021 Team: Buffalo Bills
- Contract: 3 years, $19.5 million
In need of some help to stop the rushing attacks of opposing offenses, Minnesota went out and got one of the best defensive tackles in the league when it comes to stopping the run in Harrison Phillips.
Last season, Phillips was graded as the 15th-best interior defensive lineman in the NFL by PFF despite only starting in eight of the 14 games he appeared in. When it came to stopping the run in 2021, the Vikings’ newest addition had PFF’s fifth-best run defense grade in the league among interior defenders.
Minnesota’s ability to stop the run should be much better next season as long as Phillips is in the lineup.
