Justin Jefferson is entering his third year with the Minnesota Vikings, but his first under their new offensive approach. So far, he likes what he sees.

Justin Jefferson gave the Minnesota Vikings a breath of fresh air when the former LSU Tiger arrived in the Twin Cities. With 1400 receiving yards, he broke the single-season record for a rookie, previously held by Anquan Boldin. While broken by his LSU teammate Ja’Marr Chase the following season, Jefferson proved his worth to the Vikings in just his first year.

In his second season, he improved on such with 1616 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns versus seven in his rookie campaign. But both seasons were under former head coach Mike Zimmer, who relied heavily on a run-first approach with running back Dalvin Cook.

With a new offensive-minded head coach in Kevin O’Connell, changes are expected to show for the 2022 Minnesota Vikings, especially with the new regime’s commitment to quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Jefferson recently told NFL Network’s Patrick Clayborn that the offense is not a “run-first offense anymore.” The wideout added that there is a different connection with O’Connell in the building and that he’s excited about the new approach.

It’s not a surprise that a new head coach would bring a different approach to their team, as the organization felt it was time for a change when they fired Zimmer. But it speaks volumes when the team’s star wide receiver is already on board with the new approach.

O’Connell served as part of a Super Bowl-winning team last season with the Los Angeles Rams and played a great part in helping Cooper Kupp capture his first triple crown. With proven experience, not only could the head coach help Jefferson obtain such, but also create a new offensive approach that benefits the team overall.
