Randy Moss Wants to Return in 2012
By Dan Zinski
Randy Moss has been increasing his visibility in recent weeks, first joining Twitter and then starting a Ustream. You remember Ustream right? It was really big a couple years ago with show-off athletes. The phenomenon reached its dubious peak with Stephon Marbury eating Vaseline. Then Charlie Sheen got in on the act and sort of killed it.
I’m happy to report that Randy Moss hasn’t yet eaten petroleum jelly on Ustream nor has he invented any catch-phrases or talked about his tiger blood. He has however dropped one pretty big announcement. He says he’s coming back to the NFL in 2012.
“Faith, family, and football, that’s my M.O., bro,” Moss told his viewers. “Your boy be back for the upcoming season.”
Moss mentioned that off-field issues played a part in his decision to retire. But now that stuff has been resolved and his family has given him permission to get back to football. The question now becomes, is there a team out there that’s willing to accommodate Moss? The pool of free agent wide receiver talent is pretty deep, and most of the guys on that list are much younger than Moss who just turned 35.
I would definitely sign Moss before Chad Ochocinco (soon to be Johnson again) or Terrell Owens but that’s not really saying much as both those guys are has-beens. For Moss’ sake I hope someone does take a flyer on him, cause watching him sit there all off-season and not get called would be sad. I don’t know what team would want him, but I do know two teams you can definitely cross off the list: the Vikings and (Brad Childress’ new team) the Browns. He’d fit well on the Eagles, just because they like signing big-name players who don’t necessarily help you win.
