Randy Moss to the San Francisco 49ers

Many fans favorite Viking of all-time, Randy Moss, is now a member of the San Francisco 49ers per ESPN Insider Adam Schefter. We don’t really need to get into the history on Moss or point out that this will be his 5th team since entering the league in 1998. What matters now is Moss is going to chase some of Jerry Rice’s records at Rice’s old stomping grounds.

As most everyone knows, Moss sat out last season after not finding much interest on the free agent market, recently stated that he was going to attempt a comeback through his UStream account (amongst discussing his bathroom habits and picking his nose) and started making the free agency rounds. His workout with the Saints last week went better than expected per Jay Glazer of Fox Sports then today he worked out for the 49ers where they didn’t allow him to leave town before signing a 1-year deal. He must have looked like the old version of Moss.

What was most interesting about the Moss workout in San Francisco was head coach Jim Harbaugh was one throwing to him. NFL rules are strict on allowing current players to workout with free agents before the league year begins. Moss may be disappointed to learn though once the season begins that Jim Harbaugh is not the 49ers quarterback. Moss has made his living running the go route blowing by defensive backs, taking the top off of a defense and catching a gorgeous deep ball. He’s debatably the best of all time at it. Current 49ers quarterback Alex Smith doesn’t throw the greatest of deep balls, but they do have an excellent ground game and a top shelf tight end in Vernon Davis to work the middle of the field. Then there’s the fact that Moss has a history of undermining every coach he’s ever play for and a selfish me-first attitude who gets pissy when things don’t go his way. Who knows what this season will bring?

Whatever the results though, we’ll be watching. Few can capture an audience like the Super Freak.
