It’s that time of year again when everybody wants to rank everything and figure out what the best of everything was.  So, NFL.com has put up the options for the third annual NFL Honors Play of the Year.  And there are some interesting choices.

Nov 3, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (28) scores a touchdown in the fourth quarter of the game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT

The nominees are diverse, but there is one thing that Vikings fans will find to be very unique about them:  There are THREE plays by the Vikings in there.  That’s right, THREE of the top twenty plays of the year were plays by Minnesota.

Here are the three Minnesota Vikings nominees:

  • Adrian Peterson’s first carry of 2013 – How can we forget about the first handoff that Peterson took this regular season?  He sliced through the Detroit Lions defense for a 78 yard touchdown.
  • Adrian Peterson breaks tackles touchdown – Sure, it was only an 11 yard touchdown run, but it was pretty astounding.  Peterson got stopped several yards short of the endzone and powered his way in (with a little help from Chase Ford).
  • Gone in a Flash – It was my personal Vikings Play of the Year.  Cordarrelle Patterson returns a kickoff by the Green Bay Packers for a 109 yard touchdown and broke (or tied) multiple NFL records doing so.

There are 17 other plays that are nominated and I recommend that you vote for the play that you honestly believe to be the best of the year.  Even then, it’s hard to deny any of these three plays the possibility of being the best of the 2013 season.
