Rick Spielman’s combine media rounds are resulting in plenty of not-really-news news. The latest nugget: Spielman says the Vikings have private workouts scheduled with 8 or 9 quarterback draft prospects. No names were mentioned, of course (but you can bet one of them will be Logan Thomas; that guy’s like Josh Freeman without the baggage).

Translation: The Vikings are doing their due diligence in going through all these quarterback candidates.

My take: Well I should frigging hope so.

It would be news if Spielman went before the media and said, “We’re not really that worried, we’ll just chuck a dart at a board. Scouting? That’s for chumps.”

Spielman also indicated that he will be leaning heavily on Norv Turner in the QB evaluation process.

Well that makes sense, cause Norv is a QB guru as we all know.

And later on if the Vikings again draft a QB and he turns out to be a bust, Spielman can just blame it on his QB evaluator Turner the same way he’s tried to lay blame for the Ponder failure off on Bill Musgrave.

A pre-emptive buck-pass? Spielman sure has some slick moves.

Can’t wait to see what stuff comes out of Spielman’s mouth next.
