There have been quite a few names thrown around as to who would be the #1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.  We’ve heard Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles, and Jadaveon Clowney.  NFL draft expert Mike Mayock wouldn’t pick any of those guys with the pick if he was Houston’s general manager.

His selection would be Khalil Mack out of the University of Buffalo.

Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports“He’s explosive off the edge, he’s tough, he’s twitchy, he’s got a little edge about him,” Mayock said on KFAN Friday morning. “He dominated Ohio State like nobody I’ve ever seen dominate them. You talk about a kid like Clowney, who’s just got superhuman abilities, versus this kid, and if I had a choice between the two, I think I’m taking Mack.”"

Mayock added that he is a “really a good kid off the field” and that makes selecting him even more appealing.

If Houston decides to pick Mack with the first pick this year, it would make it more likely that Minnesota could trade up for a quarterback if there is one that they warrant to be worthy.  It is unlikely that Minnesota would be interested in drafting Mack so early because they already have Chad Greenway locked up to a big contract at strong-side linebacker.
