Travelle Wharton is currently pondering retirement, but the Vikings may be prepared to entice the free agent offensive lineman back into the football fold.

It all depends on what happens with Charlie Johnson.

According to reports, the Vikings are considering Wharton as a fall back option if their efforts to bring back Johnson do not succeed.

Johnson went into the offseason with one more year left on his contract, but it was allowed to void, making him a free agent.

No market has materialized for Johnson so for him the options likely are return to the Vikings or sit around and wait for someone to get injured so he can snag a job.

Wharton meanwhile is reportedly at home, just kicking back, mulling his future.

The 32-year-old Wharton might be an attractive option for the Vikings at left guard. He was graded the #6 overall guard last season by PFF.

The Vikings have second year man Jeff Baca waiting in the wings, but could also dip into the draft. One man to keep an eye on is Billy Turner, a G/T from North Dakota State who should come off the boards somewhere in the middle rounds.

Free agent guards Vlad Ducasse and Daryn Colledge have also been mentioned in connection with Minnesota.
