Former Minnesota Vikings center Matt Birk has a new title: NFL Director of Football Development.  Before this promotion, Birk worked for the NFL Players Association and NFL as an appeals officer.  Now, he will have a lot more responsibility when working combines, scouting college football players, and being a part of meetings to help rookies and young players transition to the NFL.

Here’s a statement from the Baltimore Sun by Matt Birk about his new position:

"“I’m very excited to begin this next chapter of my football career. It’s a real honor for me to be entrusted with developing the game in so many different ways.”"

Also from the Baltimore Sun, NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent had this to say about Birk’s recent promotion:

"“Matt’s experience as a terrific NFL player, a model citizen in his community and a reputation as a forward-thinking leader make him ideally suited for this role.  There is no doubt he will continue to make a positive impact on our game and be a trusted advocate for those who play and coach at every level.”"

Matt Birk was a six time Pro Bowl player who played with the Vikings from 1998 to 2008.  He has won multiple awards for civic duties and charitable actions.  This isn’t a surprise because he is a very intelligent man who graduated from Harvard with a degree in Economics.

Congratulations to Matt Birk on the new position from us at The Viking Age.
