It was announced today that the Minnesota Vikings have promoted both tight end Chase Ford and offensive tackle Austin Wentworth to the active roster.  This decision was made after both quarterback Matt Cassel and right guard Brandon Fusco were placed on season ending Injured Reserve earlier today.

Fans may remember Chase Ford for the unbelievable play where he helped carry Adrian Peterson into the end zone against the Dallas Cowboys last year.  In 2013, Chase Ford accumulated 11 catches on 16 targets for the Vikings, totalling 133 yards and picking up 7 first downs.  With Kyle Rudolph out for an extended period of time, Minnesota may look to Ford to have a bigger role in the team’s passing game this year.

Meanwhile, Austin Wentworth had an up-and-down preseason with the Vikings before being placed on the team’s practice squad this preseason.  The reason he was brought up to the main roster instead of a quarterback or guard is currently a mystery, but the team must have some kind of idea in mind for him.  Perhaps it has to do with the struggling Matt Kalil or maybe they see him as a player who could help out the interior of the offensive line.

Congratulations to both Chase Ford and Austin Wentworth on joining the Minnesota Vikings main roster.  With how this team is struggling with injuries, you never know if or when these guys will have to step up and contribute in a big way.
