The Minnesota Vikings have picked up former Eagles defensive lineman Travis Raciti and waived former Maryland RB Brandon Ross.

The Minnesota Vikings gave their roster one last shuffle ahead of Tuesday’s first day of OTAs, picking up defensive tackle Travis Raciti while bidding farewell to running back Brandon Ross. The team announced the move Monday morning.

The 6-4, 291-pound Raciti was signed last year by Philadelphia as a UDFA out of San Jose State. He spent the year on the team’s practice squad.

The Antioch, CA native was second-team All-Mountain West his senior year in college. At his Pro Day, Raciti ran a 5.06 40, posted a 31 1/2 inch vertical and put up 21 bench press reps.

Draft expert Lance Zierlein said in his report on Raciti that the defensive lineman might do well to slim down and try to catch on as a 3-4 outside linebacker. The Vikings may want to look at him as a defensive end.

The Vikings have been busy beefing up their defensive line depth this offseason, drafting Stephen Weatherly and signing UDFAs Denzell Perine and Theiren Cockran.

To make way for Raciti, the Vikings waived former Stefon Diggs teammate Brandon Ross. The Vikings currently have five running backs on the roster including 2016 undrafted rookies C.J. Ham and Jhurell Pressley.

Next: Adrian Peterson to attend OTAs

It’s probably not a coincidence that on the same day the Vikings cut Brandon Ross, media reports came out saying Adrian Peterson plans to attend this week’s first round of OTAs.

With Peterson planning to report the Vikings likely decided they didn’t need an extra running back and so Ross was the man to go. And that is the thin thread you hang by when you are an undrafted rookie in the NFL.

Sadly, we’ll never get to see that big Maryland one-two punch of Diggs and Ross.
