The Vikings free agent wheeling-and-dealing (or lack thereof) had some more news tonight with the Ted Ginn Jr deciding to stay put with the San Francisco 49ers instead of signing with the Vikings. He also drew interest from the Lions and Ravens, but it’s unknown what sort of offers were thrown his way. What is known though is that the 49ers offered Ginn a one-year deal which he obviously accepted and is likely keeping him in a special teams type role returning kickoffs and punts.
Oftentimes whenever someone draws interest by multiple teams, yet accepts a one year deal the player wasn’t given many intriguing offers on the open market. Why move your family and leave a coach that you trust? Ginn was also said to be looking for job more as a wide receiver and even the Vikings couldn’t have viewed him as more than a return specialist to ease the duties of Percy Harvin. Kind of sad for Ginn consider he’s only 26 and was drafted 9th overall 5-years ago.
Whatever the case may be with Ginn, the Vikings move forward with a receiving core of Harvin, Michael Jenkins, Emmanuel Arceneaux, Kerry Taylor, Stephen Burton and Kris Adams. Know more than 3 of those names? You’re not alone if you don’t. But it’s also late March and I’m sure we’ll have 87 more mock drafts in the next 4 weeks with wide receivers set for purple coming in droves.
