#4: More evaluation of Trae Waynes

In just one offseason, Waynes looks much more improved. During the Cincinnati game, he showed both discipline and the knowledge of when to make a gamble. His hands-on approach to cornerback play was a problem as a rookie, but that wasn’t an issue against the Bengals.

However, this is just one preseason game with a solid performance. If he wants to earn a starting gig with the Minnesota Vikings, he will need to do this on a much more consistent basis and continue to develop.

The hope there is that Waynes can take over for an aging Terence Newman. Newman could be used very efficiently in situational play and can be moved around the secondary when needed. It will also prove that the team hasn’t squandered a first round draft pick.

Waynes’ success could be much more important to the franchise than many fans believe…and all that could start with earning a starting job this year.
