The past and future of the Minnesota Vikings franchise met up when legendary coach Bud Grant had lunch with recently acquired quarterback Kirk Cousins.

When thinking of the most important members of the Minnesota Vikings franchise, names like Fran Tarkenton, Alan Page, Randy Moss, and others come to mind. However, one of the most important people stood on the sidelines as the team’s head coach.

Bud Grant holds a place in the hearts of many Vikings fans. His 158–96–5 record as an NFL head coach speaks for itself as well as the team’s 1969 NFL Championship, four NFC Championship titles, and his Coach of the Year award.

Despite not coaching the team since the 1985 NFL season, Grant still keeps a space in the Minnesota front offices and stays connected to the franchise.

One of the biggest moves the Vikings have made in recent history involves the historic signing of Kirk Cousins to a 3-year contract worth $84 million that is fully guaranteed, giving the team quarterback stability.

Cousins hasn’t wasted any time getting acclimated to the culture and history of the franchise. Fans have already seen his wife and son doing the ‘SKOL’ chant on his social media channels, but he also enjoyed lunch with Bud Grant and a Minnesota media legend as shared on the quarterback’s Instagram account.

While it’s great to see Sid Hartman, Bud Grant, and Kirk Cousins all together for a meal, one of the coolest things to be taken away from the photo is Grant supporting the Minnesota Wild by wearing a hockey jersey.

The Twin Cities Pioneer Press shared some comments from Bud Grant about his impressions from the meeting with Cousins and came away with a positive feeling from his interactions with the quarterback.

"“It seems like he’s a very happy camper,” Grant said. “He got what, $28 million guaranteed per year?”"

Not only is it great to see a Minnesota Vikings legend still so closely involved with the team but it is awesome that Kirk Cousins is taking the time to meet with such distinguished members close to the team.

There was no word on who picked up the bill for lunch.
