Defense and Special Teams on Day 11:

Joseph watches from the sidelines

Because their have not been enough injuries for the Vikings to worry about in training camp this year, defensive tackle Linval Joseph was the latest Minnesota starter to sit out practice as he did not participate in Tuesday’s session.

No report yet on why Joseph missed practice, but the hope is obviously that the Vikings are just giving him a day of rest.

Rhodes comes up with some picks

Xavier Rhodes is regarded by some as the best corner in the NFL today, and rightfully so. Another impressive season with the Vikings last year resulted in Rhodes getting voted to his second Pro Bowl and being selected as a First-Team All-Pro

On Tuesday, the Minnesota cornerback displayed some of those All-Pro abilities that opposing receivers around the league have now become accustomed to.

Rhodes came up with two interceptions during Tuesday’s practice. One during one-on-one drills with the Vikings’ receivers and then another during the team drill portion of practice.

Williams looking impressive

Behind Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks, Minnesota’s current linebacker group is basically a bunch of unknowns. Who the Vikings decide to keep as depth for the position group is likely going to come down to the team’s final preseason game in a few weeks.

One linebacker that has been impressing people at Minnesota’s training camp this year is Antwione Williams. A fifth-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions in 2016, Williams spent last season on the Vikings’ practice squad.

With Kentrell Brothers suspended for Minnesota’s first four games of 2018, Williams could end up being the guy to take his roster spot.
