Top 4 preseason performers for the Minnesota Vikings in 2018
By Adam Patrick
Kyle Sloter – QB
Prior to the preseason, not many in the state of Minnesota knew much about this kid named Kyle Sloter who was apparently pretty good at slinging the ol’ football around.
Well it didn’t take very long for Vikings fans to realize how fun it was to watch Sloter play for their favorite team. During his first exhibition game this year against the Denver Broncos (his former team), the young quarterback led the Minnesota offense to points on three of the five drives he was on the field for.
Minnesota Vikings
Against the Broncos, Sloter himself accounted for two of the Vikings’ touchdowns (one passing, one rushing). After the conclusion of that game in Denver, Minnesota’s fans were very much aware of this kid’s abilities as a passer.
Sloter’s production didn’t really slow down during the Vikings’ other exhibition games this year either. During the 2018 preseason, he led all Minnesota quarterbacks in completion percentage (73.2), passing yards (366), and touchdowns (four).
It wasn’t so much about the numbers though when Sloter was on the field. With him under center this preseason, it just seemed like offense had a better chance to make a play than it did with fellow Vikings backup Trevor Siemian on the field.
During Minnesota’s exhibition games, Sloter was clearly the better quarterback than Siemian and it wasn’t even close. Whether or not that leads to the Vikings opening up the regular season with Sloter as their backup behind Kirk Cousins is something that remains to be seen.
